'MEET THE ARTIST'

We are always roaming the globe to find the best embroidery artisans and artists. On our quest, we have come across many unique personalities and stories, of which we want to share some with you.

Afghanistan

We have met this young artist in Afghanistan. He is skilled in many traditional handcrafts but also very interested in modern techniques and technology.

His broad interests result in him creating an animated short movie for which he wins international recognition. As part of an artist exchange program he then travels to India and Europe. On one hand he is astonished about the variety of creative possibilities the artists in other lands have but he also discovers that the european artists are, in a way, confronted with similar issues as in his home country. His personal resumé is, at this stage in his life, that he feels more liberty in expressing and developing his artistry in his homeland- where he currently continues to build his creative portfolio.

We have won this interesting artisan for ARVET and he is very excited to see what embroiderers in collaboration with international fashion designers, are able to make out of his art.

Turkey

This turkish Jewellery Artist, who is exhibiting her work internationally, breathes stories into materials to create evocative handcrafted pieces. Her body of work subtly explores the issues of identity and memory and how these are shaken in the context of political instability. One of her previous collections were informed by the belongings which refugees have to leave behind, and which can only be conserved in memories. Vegetable tanned leather cord was combined with sentimental objects to form hollow shapes, which in turn contain memories and the loss of the past.

She envelops her pieces with heritage, as she uses traditional Turkish techniques of weaving, twining, and crochet. She experiments with many materials such as crafted paper rush, vegetable tanned leather and patterned fabric and is happy to share the outcome of her experiments with ARVET in form of extraordinary components that can be used for embroidery.

France

This French Artist is all about colour and shapes. She paints bodily interactions in an electric, reduced and essential way. Her love for the human form is the red thread throughout all her paintings. The names of her pieces are a give-away- “knees against knees”, “my hand towards yours”. She sees bodies as she would see a landscape and with her unique and fun colourful eye she gives room to our imagination.

We are very happy for her to collaborate with ARVET on some exclusive art pieces-which are waiting to be transformed into embroideries.
